Australian Native Beekeeping for Beginners - Only $5
If you are wanting to get a hive but have never known where to start then try this guide to give you a path from thinking about bees to having your first cuppa in front of a hive with native bees streaming out to do good things in the world.
Native
bees are absolutely fascinating and there has been a lot of interest
in these small native insects recently, with good reason. Native bees
evolved alongside Australian native flora and fauna and are uniquely
adapted to our harsh Australian environment and our specialised
flowers and make a mesmerising addition to the backyard!
There
are a few thousand bee species that are indigenous to Australia. Only
eleven of them are social bees, and of them, three of those are
generally able to be kept by backyard native bee keepers.
This
guide will take you through a checklist of things you need to know
before you purchase a hive and to make sure you have all the
information you will need at each stage of your native bee keeping
journey. We hope to guide you through what to expect, what to look
for and what you need to know at each step.
We
have been native bee keepers for since 2011 and now have many hives
of our own and have educted and split hives for a lot of friends and
clients, as well as conducting hive transfers from damaged hives and
rescuing wild hives from places that were about to be destroyed.
We
are very fond of Australian native bees and want to help you enjoy
them as much as we do.
If
you are nervous about setting up your first hive by yourself – We
hope this guide will help reassure you at every step.

luck with your journey and Bee Happy! - John and Kara Froggatt
